Ponthier SA
History
Born in the family orchards more than 50 years ago, the love of fruit that has never waned …
- 1946 : André Ponthier and his wife founded their company as fresh fruit merchants.
- 1978 : The business flourished and Mr Ponthier set up a "Société Anonyme" (limited company). The same year, he acquired his first orchards and became a producer of apples as well.
1980 : A man of the land, Mr Ponthier took advantage of something that was in abundance locally, chestnuts. He invented a new method of cooking and preserving them and created the first range of vacuum packed cooked chestnuts. Ponthier vacuum packed chestnuts, known for keeping their shape, appearance and flavour, will always remain the company's standard bearer, both in the plates of French consumers and abroad, where they enjoy an excellent reputation with Chefs.
- 1986 : Continuing to widen the range of the company's fruit-based activities, Mr Ponthier starting producing frozen fruits.
1989 : Yves Ponthier took over the reins of family company. Carried along on the wave of innovation initiated by his father, he created a range of apple fillings : frozen in the shape of a disk or in strips, the apples are ready to use to make tarts.
- 1993 : Frozen purees and fruit coulis joined the range. Ponthier's purées won the "Le Bol d'Or Interglace" (Interglace Golden Bowl award), in recognition of their flavour and quality.
- 1996 : Ponthier's products won the "Maison de la Qualité" (House of Quality) prize awarded by the professional federation of pasty cooks in Tokyo. The same year, marking its fiftieth anniversary in spectacular fashion, Ponthier created Prestimousse, a revolutionary, patented preparation for mousses. Prestimousse is the only preparation which allows the cream to be beaten directly with the preparation and rivals the traditional mousses in quality.
- 1998 : Offering an alternative to frozen purees, whilst preserving the colour and flavour of the fruit, Ponthier created the first range of refrigerated or chilled purees.
2001 : Ponthier moved into a new factory, in the heart of the Correze countryside. By doubling its storage capacity, with 10 000 sq. m. in ultramodern, high-tech production premises, Ponthier is guaranteeing the future of a gastronomic heritage, whilst respecting the environment.
- 2004 : Ponthier changes its logo and updates its packagings and brochures. This new step brings the image of the family company to the same level of quality as its products. The company enters a new era of marketing and communication. The new logo expresses the values of the company : the apple represents fruits and nature; the line is a symbol for the rigor in productions and the open door gives way to the culinary creativity of Chefs.
- 2005 : While exporting to 40 countries, with 50 employees, and a turnover of 15 million euros, Ponthier remains loyal to its origins and values.
